I ve been looking for a way to have my Android phone read to me similar to iOS s VoiceOver feature. I m running Android 2.3 but can t seem to find a way to accomplish this easily.
A couple quasi solutions I have found is to use a RSS reader, such as FeedSpeak or Web Talks that support TTS Text to speech, however this only works for RSS feeds. Another method is to convert websites into PDF s using Dolphin Browser s MyPDF Add-on and use ezPDF s voice reading feature to read the PDF back.
Am I missing something that is inherent in the Android OS. Does anyone have a better app to accomplish this.

So ADM is officially out but reading on another site, there were a lot of people having issues. I thought I d be proactive and post something about how to get it to even show up.
There are two things that you need to check -
1 In Settings, Security, Device Administrators - be sure to allow Android Device Manager.
2 Go to Apps and find Google Settings. In there click on Android Device Manager and make sure that at least Remotely locate this device is checked. Check Allow remote factory reset if you want to be able to wipe the device remotely if you lose it.
Here s the issue I had : Android Device Manager didn t show in Google Settings. So I opened Settings and scrolled down to Google Play Services. I cleared the cache and rebooted. Once my Thunderbolt got back up, ADM showed in Google Settings both options were already checked btw.

Was bored and browsing thru crap on phone and found Android Device Manager under the Google Settings app.
Looks like Google has integrated the ability to locate device on map, ring lost device and even erase device. I ve found this on all our phones so it s not just on Victory.
You log into https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager from your pc with Google account associated with phone and you can locate, ring or erase device.
Not sure if I m late to the party but I never knew about this. Would prevent having to run a 3rd party app.

I took a look at the Android device manager page today and noticed something odd. There is a phone in my list of devices that I don t own, nor have ever owned. My S3 is the first Android phone I ve owned..the unknown device is a Motorola Photon MB855 which I ve never owned. Not sure what to do about it since I can t find any kind of help linkany thoughts or tips. I m a bit concerned there might be a phone out there on my account that I don t know about. I ve never had anything amiss happen to my account, but I want to be certain.

I need some help getting Device Manager working on my new Galaxy S5. If I recall, Device Manager looks at GPS position first. If that is turned off, it rolls to WiFi. If that is off, it rolls to Cell communications. It worked well on my old Galaxy S2, even when GPS was off, it still found the phone within a certain range.
With my Galaxy S5, it doesn t seem to work when GPS is turned of. WiFi or Cell signal will not allow device manager to find the phone.
Does anyone know how to fix this.

So Google launched their own app ADM for phone tracking and lock mode and stuff.
No doubt the tracking is accurate, it locks the phone and does some more stuff unless you have an internet connection on it.
But recently I noticed one flaw about this thing. It can be deactivated very easily if you don t have a passcode or any security set on your phone unlike the find my iPhone app on ios where u need to enter your account password even if your device doesn t has any passcode set.
This can prove a major flaw for the software as it is very easy to disable the ADM or even the location services for the phone if you don t have a password on it.
Is there any solution here or someone should help this reach the Google developers.

Hi, i was wondering if someone could help me. I installed the Android Device Manager app to my HTC cell phone and wanted to see how the application works so i accessed ADM on my laptop, it located my cell phone perfectly and i wanted to see if it will lock my phone, i set up a password and my phone did in fact lock. I used the password to unlock my phone but then i realized my cell phone keeps asking me for that same password whenever i want to use it and i don t know how to disable that, so could someone please help me, i really don t wanna keep entering that password every time i need to use my cell phone. and yes, I tried to uncheck the visibility box, it didn t help.

I have scoured the Internet, and cannot find anyone who has described this problem. Also, this is my first ever forum post, and wasn t sure where to post this.
Me, my wife, my son, and my daughter all have android phones all but my daughter have galaxy s3 s - she has the lower-end Exhibit. All have android device manager enabled. Q Android Device Manager Not Working With Nexus 7

The title says it all pretty much. I ve scoured Google for help with this issue and everything I ve tried doesn t work. Both Remotely Locate and Allow remote lock and erase are checked. I ve tried clearing the data for both Google Play Store and Google Play Services and restarting several times but no dice.
This issue came about when I misplaced my tablet the other day and logged into ADM to locate it only to find that it doesn t show up in the list.
I should probably mention I m running stock ROM 4.4.2. It also doesn t appear in the devices under the settings in the Google Play Store. Funny, my 2 year old HTC One X running CM11 shows up just fine on ADM. Any help is certainly appreciated. Thanks.

In case you didn t know, Google has silently implemented FREE tracking for almost all androids. It also allows you to erase the phone if you feel that it s necessary, all you have to do is enable it as a device admin. I realize there have been apps on the market for a long time now that do this and more however Google doesn t require you to install or update any apps to use this service and from my brief testing it seems to work amazingly well right off the bat.

I have mine set to battery saving mode, but assume that would also lower the accuracy of locating my device if it goes missing. How To Install Android SDK On Ubuntu 12.04 / 12.10

Well, I just stumbled through this and it was much harder than I remembered in the past so I thought I d share my findings in case it helps anybody. I found none of the existing guides to be totally correct so the following is information borrowed from several sources as well as my own experiences to finally get it working:
Open terminal and start with this command to download:
tar xzvf android-sdk_r22.3-linux.tgz
To make it work on a 64 bit machine this was what finally made things work on my machine after a few failed previous attempts. Also note, this takes awhile, be patient :
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs-multiarch
Install jdk if not already installed on your machine :
sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jdk

I believe its the android SDK that allows you to make android apps on your pc. I have a Dragon Touch 9 inch 8 gb 512 memory tablet and on amazon, it showed the notification on top and the back, home and recent apps on bottom. I don t know how to enable this if you can, But if i cant, i will just make a app that does this

I d like to us my Motorola Defy that is running CM 11.0 as a test device for an application that I am developing using Android Development Tools ADT. Currently I get for Serial number, N/A for AVD Name, and Unknown for the target. My non-Cyanogen devices are all detected correctly and show device specific values for these fields.

Ok so after declining the stupid update alert from sprint I finally gave up and accepted it to get rid of the alert.
It s technically an optional update I guess, but even if you decline the update it just keeps asking you to accept it EVERY time you unlock the screen, and there s no way to shut off the update alert permanently. It becomes such a nuissance you wind up accepting it just to stop the alerts.
At any rate, I accepted the update and now I cannot use Javascript on the built-in android webbrowser, which I m assuming is a pared-down version of Google chrome.
This means I cannot access most of the content on the gaming websites I frequent like TrueAchievements, because none of the javascript buttons work. I can t even click on a USPS tracking link on one of my ebay purchases because it s an imbedded link and needs Java. Hell, I can t even use the track button on USPS s main website.
It s absolutely infuriating and leaves my web browser virtually useless.

My phone has recently prompted me to download the latest version of android 4.3, which i did. So far, it actually looks pretty good. Im not really an expert, and i dont know many of the new features are, but it looks nice.
Only problem is, in the notifcation area the top bar of the phone, and subsequently when you drag the page down it is constantly refreshing with an individual notifcation for every single picture i have in my download folder. I will attach a screen shot, but essentially its like the phone thinks ive only just downloaded them. Frustrating to say the least, and then you clear them, and they come back within a few seconds. Now a complete band, Leftöver Crack proceeded to record several songs with the full line-up, including songs such as Rock The 40 Oz., Crack City Rockers and The Good, The Bad And The Leftover Crack - effectively the band s theme song. Five of these songs were later included on the band s first release - the Rock the 40 Oz. 7 EP, which was released by Bankshot. Records on March 8, 2000.
Signing to Hellcat Records edit
After contributing the song Crack City Rockers to the second installment of Hellcat Records Give Em The Boot compilation series, the band were signed to the label, initially being contracted to produce three albums for Hellcat. The band agreed, and promptly began recording songs for their first full-length - tentatively titled Shoot The Kids At School.
Unfortunately for the band, Hellcat Records refused to release the album, due to concerns over the album s controversial title, artwork and subject matter especially in regards to the recent Columbine shootings. The band eventually relented and changed the album s title, art and track listing, under the promise that they would be released from their contract afterward as a result. The album was eventually released under the title of Mediocre Generica, a sly attack at Hellcat Records, who Stza claimed wanted a mediocre, generic album in comparison to the original. The album was released on September 11, 2001.
At this point, the band now consisted of Stza vocals, additional guitars, Alec bass, Ezra and Ara Babajian from NYC ska band Agent 99, and later The Slackers, on drums.
Leaving Hellcat - recording the second album edit
As a result of legal disputes with Hellcat Records, the band were effectively left in limbo for approximately two years, unable to leave their current label, yet also unable to sign to another - as well as being unable to release any new material under the name of Leftöver Crack. However, the band did manage to bend the rules of their contract slightly, releasing a split EP with F-Minus as The Crack Rock Steady 7 - effectively Leftover Crack working under aliases with additional musicians. The EP was titled Baby Jesus Sliced Up In The Manger and was released on November 27, 2003.
In February 2003, the band began to record the songs that they had written and developed over the last three years with esteemed engineer Steve Albini, a majority of which would see a release on their second album. After recording two final songs that winter, and having finally been dropped from Hellcat Records roster, the band opted to release the song the following the year as the Fuck World Trade demo for the consideration of independent punk record labels. Around the same time, the band were approached by renowned underground punk rock figure and ex-Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra, and as a result signed to his Alternative Tentacles record label.
On August 30, 2004, Leftover Crack finally released their second album - Fuck World Trade on Alternative Tentacles Household Name Records in the UK.
Unsurprisingly, the album has been banned in multiple chain-stores such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Music Land due to the album s controversial name and subject matter - as well as the front cover, which features George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Rudy Giuliani Tony Blair on the UK release directly causing the World Trade Center bombings.
The album also displayed a greater degree of artistic freedom from the band, featuring longer songs, a wider range of instrumentation such as strings, synthesizers and double-bass drumming and a larger amount of genre experimentation - featuring elements of death metal, classical music and folk music along with the band s trademark combination of anarcho punk and ska. The album also included several guest appearances, including Chris Head, Justin Sane, and Chris No. 2 of Anti-Flag, as a well as a collaboration with The World/Inferno Friendship Society.
The band took an indefinite hiatus after the death of drummer Brandon Possible at the end of 2004. Stza spent the interim playing Leftöver Crack and Choking Victims songs by himself at a few solo acoustic shows. Ezra spent time writing songs for his band Morning Glory. Leftöver Crack began touring again in the summer of 2005, including some dates with Citizen Fish and The World/Inferno Friendship Society, as well as playing dates in October 2005 in California after the Wasted Fest was canceled. The so-called Crack Rock Steady 7 also embarked on a small European tour in November; however, this incarnation consisted of only Stza and The Infested, in some cases billed as the Crack Steady Rockers.
Return and split with Citizen Fish edit
Blacknoise Records released a four-way split entitled The Kids Are Gonna Pay in March 2006 with Leftöver Crack contributing 1 new song, Look Who s Talking Now. Other bands on the split included Morning Glory, F-Minus, and Bent Outta Shape. The 7 was limited to 1000 copies on white vinyl and is now sold out. The first 100 included limited edition patches designed by Brad Logan s wife Kristen, and some included an insert.
On October 31, 2006, Fat Wreck Chords released a 7 split single with UK ska punk band Citizen Fish, to which Leftöver Crack contributed the new song Baby Punchers. To support the release, the 2 bands joined with other Fat Wreck bands, The Sainte Catherines and Dead to Me, and went on a U.S. tour. The full length split with Citizen Fish, entitled Deadline was released on March 6, 2007 with Fat Wreck Chords releasing the CD version and Alternative Tentacles releasing the vinyl version. The album featured seven songs from each band plus an intro for Leftöver Crack s side, as well as featuring three songs originally intended to be released by Stza s newer band, Star Fucking Hipsters. 1103 copies were released on white vinyl.
Departure of Ezra and tour of Australia edit
Following the release and subsequent touring in support of Deadline, Leftöver Crack gradually became less prominent as members namely Stza and Ezra focused on other musical projects - such as Star Fucking Hipsters and Morning Glory, respectively. Although still regularly playing shows, the band effectively took a backseat, especially when Star Fucking Hipsters released each of their first two albums, Until We re Dead and Never Rest in Peace.
Towards the end of 2009, it was announced that longtime guitarist and backing vocalist Ezra had left the band. Although initially appearing to be an amicable departure, this later escalated when Stza effectively began an online feud with Ezra, accusing him of being a liar and drug addict.
In November 2009, Leftöver Crack toured Australia and New Zealand for the first time in their career. However, the line-up for all of the shows consisted of Stza, guitarist Frank Piegaro of Star Fucking Hipsters/Degenerics and two Australians filling in - Alex Flamsteed Hereafter Chris Cox Phalanx.
Following the Australian tour, Stza stated at a house show in West Auckland that Leftöver Crack would most probably be inactive in the future, much like Choking Victim before them. This coincided with the increased rate of activity from Star Fucking Hipsters, which has become his main creative outlet as of late.
In December 2010, Leftöver Crack announced that they were playing three shows. Returning to the line-up was Ezra, implying that the feud between him and Stza may have been resolved.
In January 2011, it was announced through their Facebook page that Leftöver Crack would be doing a West Coast tour in February and an East Coast tour in March. They will also be playing a small UK tour in August 2011, including the Reading and Leeds festivals.
On July 20th 2015 Scott Sturgeon confirmed Leftover Crack had finished their third album, Constructs of the State. It was released on November 27th 2015 through Fat Wreck Chords, 2 and featured guest appearances from Days N Daze, Mischief Brew, The Bouncing Souls, Penny Rimbaud and Jesse Michaels.
Venue bans, criminal records and visa restriction edit
Leftöver Crack has been banned from performing in many venues in New York City, such as ABC No Rio and the Knitting Factory. However, they still play at banned venues under a different name, Crack Rock Steady 7 or individually as solo acts. They repeatedly have trouble touring in certain countries, especially Canada, due to members having prior criminal records. They were most recently denied entry into Canada for a tour scheduled at the end of 2007. At a show in Boston, MA in August 2008, Stza angrily stated Leftöver Crack would never return to Boston. citation needed In 2006, after their show in Boise, Stza announced to a group of fans that they would never return, Boise was subsequently skipped in 07 and Star Fucking Hipsters 2010 Boise date was cancelled a week or so after being posted, though they returned to Boise in March 2011.

snorting crack / freebase cocaine
I realize most of you will just say, use powder instead, but suppose I had a supply of freebase but wanted to snort it instead of smoking it. If I managed to cut it up in a fine enough powder, would it absorb through my nasal membranes. Now I don t know a whole lot about the chemistry of cocaine/freebase, but it is my understanding that when making crack, the Cocaine HCL is first desolved in water and the baking soda reacts with the HCL leaving the crack/freebase as a percipitate. This would seem to indicate that freebase will not disolve in water; if this is true, freebase would not absorb through the very moist nasal membranes and into the liquid bloodstream. However, having tried this before snorting finely chopped up base I did seem to get an effect
You can t do that, but you can convert back to HCL and do it.
My dood gave me some rock he cooked up and I converted it back. If you do a google search or maybe on b-light you can find the instructions on how to do it.
Some friends of mine scored some powdered crack and they

Doh. Crack is supposed to be smoked, not railed. If it was really crack, they did a rather dumb thing. I m surprised it had any effect, as it doesn t dissolve easily on the mucus membranes. May not have been crack at all.

The whole point of smoking coke is to get a high dose of the chemical into your body very quickly. It has to be converted to crack first as normal cocaine hydrochloride doesn t vaporize well.
Snorting crack is a waste as someone s gone to the effort of converting the hydrochloride into a form that can be smoked, and then gone back to ingesting it by a relatively slow absorption method snorting.
So i had to get some coke through a middle man, and he gave me a 2 gram sack of what is most probably ground up crack. I dont want to smoke it, but what will the effects of snorting it be like.
Because it is freebase, it is not water soluble. Due to this fact it will not be absorbed by the mucus membranes
Unless you want to try converting it back to a salt your best bet is to just smoke it like a man.
I m not sure that freebases are not water soluble however. I think they are just much less soluble than the salts. Maybe if you snorted a very small amount it would eventualy absorb.
You could grind it up very fine and put it in a Coca-cola and experience the drink the way it was first made.

using Snorting crushed up crack
SWIM could of sworn he saw a thread on here about somebody trying to snort crack when it was all broken up Anyways, SWIM received some coke the other day that was all powder, when usually from his connect it s all big soft rocks. SWIM and his buddy checked it out, and it looked kinda ok, but being so much powder it seemed kinda clumpy. So SWIM and his buddy did a nice line, burned more than usual and had a very odd taste when it dripped. Of course SWIM went home and smoked his, which worked great and smoked just fine. Oh yeah, SWIM said the coke/crack had a pink tint to it in the light, and SWIM knows nobody can tell him what exactly it was but does anybody have any ideas Hopefully this info can give SWIM some insight on this. AFAIK, crack cannot be insufflated. At least, not to any psychoactive effect. It is not soluble in water and so won t absorb in your nasal passages.
swim knows people who have gotten high off snorting crack it mustve been the drip just absorbing through the stomach. and maybe it wasn t all in base form or cut with something else.

well the pink color can be atributed to a cutting agent, almost certainly a B comlpex vitamin, very common cut since it is not dangerious but does add a weird tint. although swim is far from an expert of on coke he has heard of ppl snorting crack, although not nearly as effective, swim s friend said it can be done.again not an expert

indeed, as darawk pointed out, when mixed with a base such as baking soda crack isn t really water soluble enough to be absorbed through the mucous membrane. the physical consistancy of this cocaine was probably due to the cutting agents used and rerocking techniques or whatever. Or it was indeed crack.
another thing, when syour buddies mention a cracked out feeling, crack effects are basically be just a very intense cocaine high, since what freebase cocaine does is multiply the speed and level of absorbtion of cocaine into the bloodstream by using the lungs, instead of the nose mucous membranes. Crack more cocaine into the blood, faster. hence the intensity, and very hard to mimick with insufflated powder cocaine. The only thing which is slightly similar in terms of absorbtion into the blood stream is actually injection.

That s what SWIM was trying to tell his buddies, it s basically all the same drug, just more intense. So when his buddies said that he just thought whatever, they are just bitching. If acetone is available, simply put the coke in a shot glass, add equal ammount of acetone and mix, whatever stays undissolved should be filtered and discarded
Then you make a 1:1 ethanol-hcl acid solution.. say 5 ml each.
and you add this solution to the acetone dropwise just until no more salts precipitate. Filter and dry..
Or one could simply pour some drops of lemon juice pulp filtered, just enough to wet all the crack and then some ethanol over that. Dry under warm ventilation to evaporate it faster
Obviously go with the first option,, it gets rid of A LOT of cuts indeed

I meant freebase coke, right, dissolve it in warm and anhydrous acetone, cuts stay undissolved. And after turning that cleaner freebase into HCL, lots of cuts will dissolve in the acetone as well, while Coke HCL will not

After crack: your eyes widen, your pupils dilate, your lightheaded, you feel euphoric, your heart races, you feel more aware/alert, you dont feel hunger or a need for sleep, and sometimes you become paranoid more often after not sleeping for days. Note: you dont sniff crack. You smoke it. It s the only way. Cocaine is sniffed or injected.
Cocaine is similar but not as strong. Crack is about 20 times stronger but the effect lasts shorter.
After Heroine: The effects are completely opposite of crack/cocaine. You relax, your heart slows down, your breathing slows down, you feel spasms/tingling up and down your spine monkey on your back is the saying, you feel drowsy, euphoric, theres a taste in your mouth within seconds to minutes after injection that gives you a warm sensation, you feel warm all over but not sweaty/hot, your skin feels tingly and you start to rub yourself which eventually turns into a itchy feeling, you start to nod and drift in and out of sleep, and you vomit within an hour or two from injection/ingestion/inhalation but it isnt a sick vomit usually several times until you become used to the heroine-few weeks, months but a relaxing, soothing vomit dont know why.
Id say smoking both at the same time is the BEST experience in the WORLD.

Yesterday being my birthday, I went to Lowes where they had the Campbell Hausfeld normally 299 on sale for 219, however when I compared it side by side I went for the EMGLO 1.3hp 5 gallon Oil lubed model slightly more bucks, but I really liked the small footprint. it had better reviews and the sales person said it was the choice of General Contractors in our area I wanted something for trailer/car maintenance, and it seemed to fit the bill. Tested it on son s car, and taking lug nuts off is a snap. Now I want the Air jack.
One word of caution, the compressors sell As Is, meaning you need to purchase the hose, Oh and they will then stick you with having to purchase Quick disconnects and it seems you get nickle and dimed for even the minimum set up. I bought a 50 piece tool set, and still had to go back and purchase more connectors.
Once you do get it all set up, it is convenient I m still without a cutting wheel mandrel, and looking for an in-expensive Air jack. The EMGLO recovers very very quickly, so the 4 gallon tanks work well for my applications, I think the continuous flow is rated at 90psi and the max psi is 125 psi Setting it at 100psi, it spun the lug nuts off quickly.
